The data innovation alliance has launched a 4-year innovation program in the field of maintenance and Industry 4.0. Swiss companies can receive targeted support from universities to drive strategic innovation – financed by the funding agency Innosuisse. We present the key points of this program and explain how companies can benefit from such support.

Quality Control and Predictive Maintenance in the Pharma Packaging Sector
Prof. Dr. Klaus Frick
Lecturer in Mathematics & AI,
Head of Data Science
ICE Institute for Computational
Engineering
In recent years, predictive maintenance has become the desired goal of many companies and plant owners. Data is being collected, and machine learning algorithms are now available for commercial use. So why is it that only a small proportion of companies are currently achieving this goal? What are the missing links between the extensive research results and the real-world operational applications? Based on concrete use cases, I will explain some of them and show how to move from research in the field of predictive maintenance to efficient use in large plant fleets.

From the production machine to gearbox monitoring – maintenance with few sensors
Philipp Schmid
Head R&BD Industry 4.0 &
Machine Learning
CSEM
Many manufacturing companies have started to store data from machines and testing equipment. Often locally on different computers in different formats and spreadsheets. Falling prices and the ease of use of IoT gateways make it possible to connect to the cloud. The data no longer lingers in distributed silos, but is aggregated along entire value chains and across locations. But what now? How can I get a real competitive advantage out of the data without just accumulating a gigantic mountain of data garbage? In the case of “Predictive Quality”, the focus is less on optimised maintenance and more on process monitoring and optimisation of quality. The aim is to identify the smallest deviations across the entire production line at an early stage and thus produce a constant production output and, above all, impeccable quality.
