Business success through sustainability and resilience – an example from the shipping industry

Companies that place a strong focus on sustainable practices are able to adapt flexibly to changing circumstances and evolving requirements. These companies are characterized by their resilience and recognize the essential importance of focusing on resources that contribute to achieving their goals in the long term, while always taking environmental aspects into account. The presentation will discuss the idea and potential of an “Ecoscore” and how it contributes to sustainable efficiency improvements in the shipping industry.

Bridging the Gap: From Human Expertise to Autonomous (Maintenance) Services

A shortage of skilled workers is jeopardizing the resilience of industrial companies. This trend is systematically reducing the ability of industrial companies to continue offering maintenance services in the future. At the same time, technological advances (e.g. generative AI) are opening up the development of “autonomous services” to counteract this trend. The presentation will highlight and discuss possibilities for the development and commercialization of autonomous services.

Sustainable value creation through smart data

The use of data in the manufacturing environment lags far behind its potential. It is known that solutions such as predictive maintenance can reduce downtimes, which can create business benefits. But there is much more potential. By extending the perspective to the entire customer life cycle, companies can tap into additional business potential and – assuming targeted design – also optimize ecological and social value creation.

Digitale Services at Zünd Systemtechnik

In view of the continuing pressure on margins, other earnings pillars are crucial for the machine manufacturer Zünd Systemtechnik AG. Its aftersales service enjoys an excellent reputation. It therefore makes sense to expand the area of machine maintenance.
As part of an Innosuisse-funded research project, data-based tools are being developed with the OST and ZHAW universities of applied sciences to make this growing organization even more efficient and robust in the face of operational dynamics.

Value Life Cycle Management for Smart Products

The development and introduction of smart, networked products is a strategically important topic for most manufacturing companies today. However, despite technical advances with digital technologies and services, the expected returns often fail to materialize. A Value Life Cycle perspective is therefore helpful to show how companies can take advantage of various opportunities to create and capture value throughout the product life cycle.
