In IoT applications, a lot of data is generated that has to be processed as quickly as possible, often even in real time. Delays, such as those caused by data transmission between the location and the data center, must be avoided. The aim is to process the data directly on the end device and only transmit the results. Edge computers offer an excellent platform for this. These compact IPCs are designed to process data directly on the machine – “on the edge”. The most important requirements for the edge computers used can be summarized in three properties: powerful, compact, low-maintenance. The Spectra PowerBox 410 is the ideal mini PC for edge computing. State-of-the-art 9th generation Intel® processors ensure maximum performance. The integrated 9th generation Intel® HD 630 graphics engine guarantees excellent graphics performance. There are three mPCIe slots for WiFi, GSM, COM, LAN or fieldbus extensions and two sockets for LAN or PoE extensions. An M.2 2230 socket forms the basis for additional WiFi or Bluetooth expansion. Two gigabit LAN connections support fast data transport. In total, more than 100 equipment variants can be put together using the plug-and-play principle. This diversity of variants of the Spectra PowerBox 410 can definitely be compared with that of a classic 19″ industrial PC, but with dimensions of only 242 x 173 x 77 mm it requires less than a tenth of the volume. The wireless design of the central unit reduces the risk of failure due to a loose plug connection. Depending on the CPU used, the Spectra PowerBox 410 can be used at operating temperatures of -20 °C to +50 °C. The edge computer works without a fan, but can be additionally cooled by an external fan if necessary. A voltage input of 9 to 48 VDC is available for the power supply.
