Supercapacitors combine compact designs with very high capacities and are environmentally friendly because they do not contain any harmful ingredients. Supercapacitors are superior to batteries, especially when there is high switching load. Due to their much faster charging and discharging times and the number of possible cycles (>1,000,000), supercapacitors are often used as a replacement for button cell batteries.
If the supercapacitor and battery are connected in parallel, they support the battery during the discharging process with short, quick bursts of energy and thus reduce the load on the battery. This increases its service life by a factor of 1.5 – 2. The support provided by the supercapacitor also allows the battery to be made smaller and thus reduce its costs.
With its DCSR series in a reflow-capable SMD housing, Korchip now offers a solution with 220mF to 470mF at voltage values of 3.6V and 5.5V. The permissible operating temperature ranges are -40°C to +70°C and -40°C to +85°C. All components are of course RoHS compliant.
